About the Pastor

Elder A. Kevin Medlin is the Local Pastor of the Church of God and Saints of Christ, First Tabernacle Beth El in Southern Pines, NC. He is following in the pastoral footsteps of his great-uncles Bishop Thomas C. Person and Elder Andrew J. Person.

Elder Medlin was born and raised in Southern Pines, where he attended the local public schools and was graduated from Sandhills Community College receiving an A.A.S degree in Accounting. At Sandhills, he was named in the 1976 edition of Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges.

In November 1973, he was appointed a deacon by then Elder Judah A. Person, Jr., the Local Pastor. Elder Medlin moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1979 where he was employed with the Prudential Insurance Company and later with the Newark Housing Authority. He retired from the Housing Authority as Assistant Director of Procurement and Contracts in March 2016 after 29 years.  He did additional studies at Rutgers State University and attended the Howard Z. Plummer Seminary.  As a member of First Tabernacle Beth El, Newark, he was under the tutelage of Evang. Benjamin J. Quattlebaum, assisting him as deacon, local trustee and in other areas.

Elder Medlin was ordained to the ministry by Rabbi Levi S. Plummer on August 14, 1999 and was given the charge as pastor of Sixth Tabernacle in Trenton, NJ.  In 2010, he was named the Local Pastor of Fifth Tabernacle, Atlantic City, NJ. In August 2016, he became the Local Pastor of First Tabernacle Beth El in Southern Pines. In October 2021 Elder Medlin was appointed Interim Local Pastor of Third Tabernacle Beth El, Greensboro, NC by Chief Rabbi Phillip E. McNeil.

He was appointed to the Board of General Tabernacle Trustees as an Alternate Trustee in 1993 by Rabbi Levi S. Plummer, G.F.A. Rabbi Jehu A. Crowdy, Jr. G.F.A, elevated him as a voting member in 2002 and appointed him secretary of the Board in June 2005. Elder Medlin is a member of the Howard Z. Plummer Minister’s Conference and served as secretary for over ten years.
